A bespoke kinetic gold-plated orrery was designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed for At.mosphere, the fine dining restaurant inside the Burj Khalifa. Built around more than 40 individually engineered mechanical elements running in continuous silent synchronisation, hand-engraved and fully gold-plated across every visible surface, the piece was delivered end-to-end from the artist's original vision through to on-site installation and testing, and has operated autonomously around the clock since handover.

At.mosphere sits inside one of the most extraordinary buildings on earth, and demanded a centrepiece capable of holding its own against that backdrop. The brief was to bring an artist's vision to life as an exceptional orrery installation, combining intricate design, mechanical precision, and luxurious finishing in a single autonomous work of art, for a venue where every detail is scrutinised daily by a discerning international clientele.
The technical challenge was uncompromising: the piece had to function as both a precision instrument and a sculpture, powered by over 40 finely engineered mechanical elements working in perfect synchronisation, and it had to run flawlessly 24 hours a day without interruption or manual intervention. Mechanical failure or visual inconsistency was not an option, which meant every component had to be specified for sustained continuous operation rather than occasional display, and finished to a standard that rewards inspection from centimetres away.
"Building something for the Burj Khalifa means building it to last, to dazzle, and to run without fault, day after day, year after year. Every gear had to be worth looking at. Every movement had to be worth watching."

Lead Engineer, Emaar At.mosphere Orrery

The kinetic gold plated orrery has become one of the defining visual signatures of At.mosphere's interior, a piece that guests seek out, photograph, and reference when describing the restaurant to others. Its autonomous movement gives it a living quality that static art installations cannot replicate: always in motion, always precise, always worth watching. In a venue where the view competes with everything inside it, the orrery holds attention on its own terms.
The installation demonstrates the capability to design, engineer, fabricate, and install bespoke mechanical art at the highest level of luxury, delivered on time, on specification, and with zero operational failures since handover. It stands as a permanent piece of work at the intersection of engineering rigour and artistic vision, in one of the most demanding and most visible hospitality environments in the world.
