Beyond Dome is Dubai's first immersive 360° venue, a permanent 20-metre geodesic dome at Dubai Festival City Mall. The completed venue runs family programming through the day and adult sensory experiences in the evening, then converts to host brand launches, private dining, and school programmes, a single space that becomes an entirely different venue with a change of content.
Dubai has no shortage of entertainment, which makes a new attraction a demanding proposition: it has to justify its footprint commercially and offer something the market does not already have. Beyond Dome was conceived as a permanent immersive venue capable of serving several completely different audiences from one space, families during the day, adults in the evening, and corporate and school bookings alongside both, without rebuilding the room between them. That model only works if the structure itself is built to last.
The dome requirement was therefore unforgiving. A 20-metre geodesic fulldome had to be specified and delivered for a permanent commercial installation inside a working retail destination, engineered for Dubai's heat load with twin thermal insulation, built to a geometric accuracy that would allow a twelve-projector array to be calibrated seamlessly across its interior surface, and structurally rated for heavy floor loading so that vehicles and large set pieces could be brought inside for brand events. The dome is the foundation everything else depends on, and it had to be right first time.
